MLB Baseball Betting: St. Louis Cardinals at Colorado Rockies
The St. Louis Cardinals enter today’s road game against NL West also ran Colorado tied with the Pittsburgh Pirates for first place in their division. The Cards have won 7 of their last 10 games and face a Rockies team that has been horrible in the second half of the season. Until the Los Angeles Dodgers started their red hot play the Rockies were actually in the mix for the divisional lead. Now they’re in last place having lost 7 of their last 10 games.
Cards will start righthander Lance Lynn who definitely hasn’t been the linchpin of the rotation this season. In recent years he’s shown a tendency to wear down as the season progresses and that may be happening now. Overall he’s got a 4.23 ERA and the Cardinals have won 17 of his 30 games. He’s not been quite as good on the road with a 5.39 ERA and the Cardinals losing 9 of his 15 assignments. In his last three starts he’s got a 6.60 ERA and St. Louis has lost two of those games. Colorado will counter with righthander Collin McHugh who has been lit up since his late season move into the starting rotation. Two starts, two Colorado losses and a 10.00 ERA.
St. Louis needs these wins in Colorado and this is a good opponent for them. St. Louis has dominated right handed pitching this year going 69-39 +18.5 units and have destroyed teams with losing records all season long. Against opponents with losing records the Cardinals are 47-26 +7.8 units against teams under .500 including a 22-11 +4.8 unit mark in the second half of the season. Colorado has just lost a ton of money for their financial backers all season long-their 68-82 record translates to a -15.8 unit loss. In all fairness, they have made a very small profit (+1.5 units) at home. That being said, we’d much rather be on the Cardinals here. They’re the much better team, should have little trouble with Rockies’ right hander McHugh and need every win they can get in order to lock up the divisional title. Pittsburgh continues to play well so St. Louis can’t count on them to hand them the NL Central title. For that reason they’ll have to earn it on the field.
