MLB Betting Preview: Baltimore Orioles at Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks are in second place in the NL West but they’ve just been ‘treading water’ of late which means that the division leading Los Angeles Dodgers-who have been red hot lately winning 9 of their last 10 games-have been able to open up a 7 game advantage at the top. Arizona will look to regain some kind of momentum on Monday as they host the Baltimore Orioles in Interleague action. Baltimore is in a similar situation-they’re trying to close the gap between themselves and AL East leading Boston who they trail by 4.5 games. Following this early week 3 game series the Orioles will return home to host the Colorado Rockies while the Diamondbacks will embark on a tough road trip with stops in Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.

Scott Feldman will get the call for the visitors-he’s been solid though far from spectacular this season. Overall Feldman has a 4.10 ERA and the O’s have won 11 of his 21 starts for a +1.1 unit profit. On the road Feldman has a 3.82 ERA with Baltimore holding a 6-5 record when he starts for 2 units of profit. He’s got been in particularly good form of late with a 5.60 ERA in his last three starts-two of which were Baltimore losses.

The Diamondbacks will counter with lefthander Wade Miley who has been decent for most of the year and in exceptional form of late. Overall, Miley has a 3.56 ERA and the Diamondbacks have won 12 of his 23 starts for a +2.4 unit profit. At home he’s been even better with a 3.93 ERA but the impressive part is the D-Backs W/L record of 7-2 +4.8 units in his 9 starts. His last three starts have been highly impressive-he’s allowed only 2 earned runs in his past three assignments for an ERA of 0.86 and Arizona getting the victory in all three games.

Baltimore is a team we typically like to play on but they’ve been inconsistent of late and have lost money against left handers this season (18-19 -4.6 units). Can’t pass up Miley in such exceptional form-he’s putting up numbers that are far superior to his Baltimore counterpart Feldman and has been a big moneymaker at home this year. We’ll go with the red hot southpaw at a very reasonable price.
